My Birth Journey

I am a mother of three amazing little ones. I have one girl (Madelyn - 5 1/2) and two boys (Caleb - 3 1/2 & Luke born November '12). I would have to say that all of my births have been anything but uneventful. I have experienced pretty much everything when it comes to birth.

The birth of my daughter was an induction that ended in a non-emergency cesarean section at 10 cm & pushing (I was so close we could see her hair; she was "stuck"). My first son was a fast birth. My water broke and then contractions began soon after. It was only 2 hours later that I was in the birth tub in our dining room pushing. That is when we discovered that he was in an awkward breech position (head down the day before). So at 10 cm and pushing (AGAIN!), we transferred to the hospital for another cesarean section.

My third baby was some what an uneventful birth. We were at home and everything went smoothly (22 hours of smooth...). He took his sweet time and gave me my HBA2C (home birth after two cesarean sections!). It was an amazing experience that I would not trade for anything! The only two "events" for his birth was that he came out my vagina (!!!!) and his umbilical cord was only 9 inches long (!!!!).

I would change the way my first two births went, BUT what I would NOT change is what I learned from them and how I am now able to use my experiences to help other women. I became a doula when my daughter was only three months old. When I found out what a doula was, I was in! I have loved every minute of it since.

I know I could not have done all this with out my amazing, supportive husband! My family & friends who prayed for us & with us through all of our births. I also could not have done it without my awesome midwife (Lindsey Meehleis), my awesome chiropractor (Britney Cicon), my awesome doula & friend (Tessa Fisher), and a special thanks for Midwife Sue Gill for attending Luke's birth too!
